European Parliament · 25 March 2021
Strengthening the international role of the euro
Adopted
494 in favour · 94 against · 100 abstained. 688 members voted.
What it asks for, in the Parliament's words
- Stresses the irreversible nature of the single currency; emphasises that the euro is not only a monetary project but also a political one
- Notes that strong and competitive financial markets are key to strengthening the international role of a currency, and therefore underlines the need for effective, proportionate and predictable regulation in this area
- Underlines that the international role of the euro would also benefit from tapping the potential of one of the greatest added values of the EU: its single market; calls, to this end, for the completion of the single market
